    Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) (Urdu: jm’H BHLDYN zkhry) is an institution of higher education that is a public one with its main campus located in Multan, Pakistan. Bahauddin Zakariya University was founded in 1975, originally known as Multan University.

    It is among the largest institutions in Punjab. The University was named in 1979 to honor the Sufi saint BAHAUDDIN ZAKARIYA UNIVERSITY(BZU) (1171-1262).

    As a degree-granting public university, it provides degree programs in over 60 fields of study, including engineering, biochemistry, pharmacy humanities, business administration, law, music, art, IT, agriculture, and languages. According to the recently released 2016-2017 Times Higher Education (THE) Ranking System, (BZU)Bahauddin Zakariya University is among the top 800 universities globally that are highly ranked.

    In 2019, the school was also ranked 8th in the country by the(BZU) General Universities category of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

    Baha Uddin Zakariya University, Multan (BZU) is one of the top universities in Punjab, Pakistan. It was established in 1975 with eight departments housed in rental buildings. It now has more than 50 institutes, departments, colleges, and a huge student body.

    The University was originally named Multan University. Although the University of Multan, its name was changed in 1979 to honor the thirteenth-century Islamic saint, Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya, who founded a center of theological studies located in Multan.     BZU gives diplomas in more than sixty different subjects and offers short courses, and has launched undergraduate programs that are four years across a variety of disciplines.

    The region of BZU heavily relies on agriculture and agriculture; the school has a long-standing agricultural heritage and has a well-respected Faculty of Agricultural Science and Technology that has eight research labs.

    The University has created three sub-campuses: Sahiwal, Layyah and D.G. Khan. The researchers of the Khan University work closely with the local community and with companies, for example, to establish a University College of Textile Engineering in 2004 to help support locally-based industry.

    Recent additions of the University include the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, the Saraiki Area Study Centre, and the Institute of Biotechnology. As a result, BZU is the fastest-growing public University.

    The first University was established in 1975 in rented buildings that housed 8 departments. The University now has an expansive campus, with sixty departments as well as several college constituents, like University Gilani Law College and Multan College of Arts, and faculties such as Veterinary, Agricultural Science and Technology (FAST) (formerly University College of Agriculture or UCA), Engineering and Technology.     The (BZU) Bahauddin Zakariya University is a general university offering training in the fields of Arts and Science. Agriculture is the primary source of income of the region – and the area and its surroundings produce the nation’s top silver crops (cotton) and fruit crops such as mangoes, citrus, and dates.

    Therefore, it was believed to be beneficial to train the workforce to tackle issues related to agriculture. Thus the College of Agriculture was established in 1989. It was established in 1989. College of Agriculture and its companion, the Engineering College, form an integral element of the University Plan. The College of Engineering & Technology was founded in 1994. Department of Commerce was started in November of 1996.

    BBA classes began within the Department of Business Administration in October of 1996. The Bachelor of Computer Science was introduced in the Department of Computer Science in November 1996, even though Masters in Computer Science (MCS) was already in place in 1989. B.Sc. Electrical Engineering class started at the end of November in 1997. Information Technology Centre was established in July 1999.

    BS as well as MSc. Telecommunication System was started in January of 2004. B.Sc. Mechanical and Computer Engineering and Textile, Computer Architectural, and Agricultural Engineering classes were introduced in the fall of 2004.

    The degrees conferred by the University are recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC), engineering degrees awarded by the Pakistan Engineering Council, and pharmacy degrees are awarded by the Pakistan Pharmacy Council also. 

    Location

    The campus is located 10 kilometers away from the city center. The main campus extends across an area of 960 acres. The back gate is located 6 kilometers from the ‘Chowk Kamharanwala.’

    Sub-campuses and jurisdictions

    The principal goal for (BZU)Bahauddin Zakariya University is to provide higher education facilities and research for the people in the southern region of Punjab that includes all of the Civil Administrative Divisions of Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan.

    Therefore, the University can fulfill its triple purpose of affiliation, teaching as an examining body, and has 79 affiliated schools that include prestigious and old institutions like the Government Emerson College Multan, Government Post Graduate College (Sahiwal), and Government College, Burewala. In addition, the University has sub-campuses located within Sahiwal, Layyah, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

    Admissions to student

    (BZU)Bahauddin Zakariya University Admissions to students typically take place between August and September for the autumn semester. M.Phil. degree programs and distance learning accept students between January and February of the Spring semester. Some departments require GAT, while others have their criteria for testing. Engineering admissions are by merit.

    Students are granted seats on merit by taking tests. The departments that do not require students’ tests like for the undergraduate degree then get admission based on the numbers of their intermediate or another academic level.
